Belgium hands out safe-sex books

BRUSSELS, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) —— All Belgian families with children over 13 years old will soon receive a brochure on safe sex in their post box, which is part of a government campaign targeting teenagers.

Belgian Federal Health Minister Rudy Demotte said the awareness campaign is aimed to reduce the number of teenage pregnancies as well as the occurrence of sexually transmitted diseases among teens.

Although clearly tailored for teenagers, the brochure will instead be sent to the parents, who can decide whether their child is mentally ready to receive the information.

The 52-page booklet tells of relationships and sex in general and focuses on safe sex. Demotte hopes the brochure could incite youngster to have safe sex.

Apart from the 100,000 copies of books, there are also 750,000 condoms to be handed out freely through pharmacies and other facilities.
